Streaming Releases: A Universe of Entertainment Options
August 28, 2020
It is an impressive week for streaming services with something for just about everyone and something on all of the major services. We have dramas (Lingua Franca); documentaries (Rising Phoenix), comedies (The Binge); and even two animated offerings (Aggretsuko: Season Three and Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe).

Netflix
Auli'i Cravalho stars as an optimistic teen with a secret: she’s homeless. When tragedy strikes, she has to learn to accept a helping hand. The reviews are good, not the best of the week, but certainly good enough to be worth your time, if you have Netflix.
Amazon Prime
Set deep in the Scottish Highlands, this film focuses on four city kids on a camping adventure who get lost and are hunted by a shadowy group. The reviews are excellent and if you have Amazon Prime, it’s free to watch.
Netflix
This is one of two movies about undocumented trans women living in the United States, the other being The Garden Left Behind, which opens theatrically and virtually this week. That film is earning better reviews, but both are certainly worth checking out.
Disney+
I’m happy to report the latest movie lives up to the show as a whole.
Netflix
Elite athletes and insiders reflect on the Paralympic Games and examine how they impact a global understanding of disability, diversity and excellence. The reviews are amazing, perhaps even award-worthy.

This anime takes place in a world of anthropomorphic animals who work typical office jobs. Aggretsuko is a red panda tired of her thankless work, so she blows off steam by singing death metal at karaoke. The reviews for the first two seasons were amazing, so I hope the quality level remains the same for season three.
Netflix
This is an excellent show that is getting a re-release on Netflix as they prepare to release season three next year. It is smart to re-release the show to build hype for the new season, but it is strange to re-release this far in advance.
